On Saturday 24 January 2026, I picked these green pods hanging from the Wisteria in the garden. They’ve been there for some time now as I watch them from my studio window. After some research, people said you should pick the pods so more energy is distributed into the growing of the tree. So, I picked all the ones I could reach.
13 seed-pods.
I hung them up on a washing-line and pegs in the studio.
The pods have a strange atmosphere to them, almost enchanting and divine in the way they solemnly hang. Fuzzy like donkeys-ears, slightly alien-like.
Jan 28: One seed pod has burst and part of the branch has detached itself. I found the shell in two parts on the floor. I have yet to find the seed. I’m surprised the pods have started bursting so early, maybe its the temperature change from outside as they’d usually burst in spring when it warms up.
Feb 7: I have finally found the seed from the first pod. It was on the window sill, it has traveled a few feet from the washing-line.
Feb 18: A second seed pod has burst. half of the pod was on the floor, the other still hung on the line by the branch. The seed was laying in the middle of the studio floor. This seed much bigger than the last.
Feb 19: A third seed pod has burst. The same as yesterday, half on the floor, half hung up, the seed right below on the floor.
Feb 20: A fourth pod has burst, half on the floor, half hung up by the branch. The seed has yet to be found.
Mar 1: I found half a seed pod shell curled up on my window sill but I don’t think I noticed that it burst. It could’ve been like this for a while. The seed yet to be found.
Mar 14: When moving the washing-line, I noticed one of the pods has burst, but both sides are still attached to the stem and the seed stuck inside. It’s a very small seed but it looks like there’s a space where a larger one is missing.
Mar 15: There’s pods everywhere, all over the studio floor. Two halves on the floor, both from different pods, the other halves still hung up, one has a large seed still attached inside. Another two halves are found on my table, and another two halves hung up. Five seeds were found on scattered across the studio and I assume more are yet to be found. I counted four pods that had burst overnight. Only three pods remain. I can only guess that the sudden surge in burst pods has been because of the really cold weather and the heating being on, warming the house.
Mar 17: One seed found on the table.
Mar 23: Two seed pods have burst, both with their separate shells on the floor and hung up on the line, but only one seed was found. Only one pod left.
Mar 27: The final seed-pod has burst. Half the pod on the floor along with the seed, half hung up. It looks to be a large seed, possibly the biggest out of the lot.
I have 11 loose seeds, some are still attached to their pods.
The pods are a vessel, a nest, and a receptacle — holding, nurturing, sheltering.
